The Herring Foundation of Hope is committed to making a difference in people’s lives by providing current and accurate information on cancer prevention, knowledge of treatment options, and hope.

The Facts:

• Cancer is the #2 killer of Americans under 85 years old, second only to heart disease (American Cancer Society 2007)
• 559,650 Americans under 85 years died of cancer in 2006 (the most recent year for which info is available)
• 1,444,920 Americans were diagnosed with cancer in 2007
• 589,260 cancer deaths are expected in 2008. That is more than 1,500 people a day.

Unfortunately, everyone is sure to be directly touched by cancer in their lifetime, whether it be a relative, friend, or themselves. The news of a cancer diagnosis is devastating to the patients and their family members. The shock is followed by the terrible confusion about what steps to take for treatment. 

The Herring Foundation of Hope seeks to ease the anxiety and uncertainty that accompanies a new cancer diagnosis by delivering objective, thorough, and broad information to patients and their families in an effort to equip them with the knowledge, tools, strength, and hope to become healthy again.
